PRESS RELEASE: 2000 SCOTS CONSUMERS JOIN THE BIG ENERGY SWITCH ON DAY 1
2000 consumers have joined the Big Energy Switch on day 1 of the campaign, a huge show of community support for the Scotland-wide people power campaign.
The Big Energy Switch is looking to recruit twenty thousands consumers to help unlock group discounted energy offers in Scotland.
The campaign will run for 4 weeks, with the collective power of the One Big Switch consumer movement growing every time another consumer joins.
To put the energy buying power of 2000 consumers in context:
- Just the first day of registrants for the campaign have a cumulative energy purchasing power of almost £2.5 million annually.
- 2000 Consumers in 24 hours means a Scotish household is joining the campaign every 45 seconds.
This huge response to the campaign is comparable to some of the largest group switching campaigns held anywhere in the world, and a massive show of strength.
One simple reason to explain this massive response is the fact that average fuel bills in Scotland have risen nearly four times faster than household incomes since 2003
Michael Stewart, the respected campaigner and football commentator, is directing the campaign and, welcomed the huge community response on day 1, ”this is a very strong message from the people of Scotland that they want to use the power of group switching to unlock discounted energy offers. ”
“For too long consumers have had to accept what was on the market, now is a real chance for consumers in Scotland to be price makers, not just price takers, that’s a big change, and real opportunity do something different to fight the rising cost of living.”
Registration closes midnight on 5 June 2015. Consumers can join at www.onebigswitch.co.uk. Registration is quick, easy, and entirely cost and obligation free.
NB to editors & producers: Details of case study families, who are feeling the effects of the energy price rise crisis, and have joined the campaign, are available for media outlets.
